Licensing and Compliance
Under the Federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA) “debt collector” is defined as anyone who directly or indirectly assists in the collection of a debt. In addition to complying with FDCPA, many States have their own requirements for debt collectors. There are 21 States that have no separate state licensing requirements, yet they may have registration and bonding requirements. NCCI complies with all such registration and bonding requirements. There are an additional 17 States which require a State issued Debt Collector’s license. NCCI is licensed in all 17 of those States. The remaining 12 States, because NCCI does not actually collect debts, have issued a variance letter. However, NCCI is currently in the process of obtaining full licenses in those 12 States.
